Call / Recall optical technologies: 1-TB drives today, 100-TB drives on the way

Call / Recall announced
availability for licensing of its proprietary technology for
work with optical discs, which will contain 40 times more information,
than Blu-ray media.

Developed on
based on the work of Peter Rentzepis, (Dr. Peter Rentzepis), former head of Bell
Laboratories, the storage system uses a 2-photon process
records to fit each bit in the three-dimensional space of the disc. Lots of
thin layers, the distance between which is about 10 microns, will allow you to place
as much data as would fit on 200-250 regular disks
DVD. In the future, it is planned to further increase the storage density –
up to 5 times.

An additional key point of technology, the manufacturer notes the fact,
that it is already available for commercial implementation, large manufacturers can start implementing it
optical drives and discs.

At the moment, using the company’s technology, you can record up to 1 TB
data to disk. Call / Recall plans for the near future – recording multi-terabyte
volumes per disk. Call / Recall technology is expected to soon be able to
create 100+ TB disks that will be the same size as the usual disks
CD / DVD.

In addition, optical drives and discs are expected to appear in
compact user electronics. One-inch optical disc that
stores up to 50 GB of data, can become a reality for cell phones,
game consoles,
multimedia players and other devices.

In words, so far everything looks pretty
tempting, but as always, the new technology should attract the attention of investors and
large manufacturers before theoretical benefits become reality.
