Microsoft “patches” Windows faster than Apple – Mac OS X
Microsoft employee Jeff Jones in an entry in his online diary claims that in 2021 his company closed Windows security vulnerabilities faster than Apple in Mac OS X, as well as manufacturers of various Linux distributions in their versions of operating systems.
According to Jones’ calculations, it took Microsoft 29 days to fix one vulnerability, while Apple took 46 days. At the same time, SuSE Linux Enterprise received the necessary “patches” after 74 days, Red Hat Linux Enterprise – after 107 days, and Sun Solaris – after 168 days.
It is fair to say that Windows XP SP2 required 44 fixes over the past year, while Mac OS X required 35. If we take into account the number of required fixes and the average time of their release, it turns out that the risk levels for both OS were approximately equal.
