New AMIMON ICs Provide Wireless High Definition Video Transmission
Wired connections are slowly giving way to their wireless brethren. AMIMON has announced the release of a chipset that allows you to organize a wireless interface for transmitting high-definition video (Wireless High-definition Interface, WHDI). The WHDI chipset includes two microcircuits – AMN2110 and AMN2210. With their help, designers of consumer electronics will be able to provide connection of the display to the video signal source, which does not require cables.
The chipset can be used in devices such as LCD and plasma TVs, multimedia projectors, A / V receivers, DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-ray players, set top boxes, game consoles, PCs and video related accessories.
In other words, the novelty allows you to create a wireless network over which high-definition video streams are broadcast. According to the manufacturer, the devices will be able to exchange information at a distance of more than 30 meters, and the walls are not an insurmountable obstacle. According to AMIMON, WHDI is the only uncompressed wireless video transmission technology capable of reaching the entire home.
Declared transmission of uncompressed 1080p stream (3 Gbps equivalent) in a 40 MHz channel allocated at a frequency of 5 GHz. Uncompressed 720p, 1080i and 1080p 24 / 30p streams (1.5 Gbps equivalent) can be delivered over a 20 MHz channel. The delay does not exceed 1 ms.
Interestingly, compared to the cable connection that AMIMON WHDI technology replaces, it provides enhanced functionality. The multipoint-to-multipoint matrix connection makes it possible to eliminate not only a specific cable, but virtually all cable connections used for video and audio transmission in a home entertainment system.
Loewe and Funai are already showing the first products with AMIMON WHDI chips at IFA Consumer Electronics in Berlin.
