AMI and MagnaChip to Continue Development of ULP Semiconductor Technology

AMI Semiconductor (AMIS), which specializes in semiconductor chips for digital and mixed signal processing in automotive, medical and industrial electronics, announced the continued cooperation with MagnaChip Semiconductor. Under the new agreement, MagnaChip will be able to use AMI Semiconductor’s SmartPower technology in 0.35 micron production. In addition, the parties will continue to develop ULP (ultra-low power) technology, intended for the production of semiconductor devices with ultra-low power consumption. Recall that earlier the terms of cooperation between companies were determined by an agreement concluded in November 2021. Then, the task for a joint solution was the development of a technical process with the norms of 0.18 microns, and the forms of interaction included the coordinated use of production capacities.

The results of cooperation between MagnaChip and AMIS are obvious – the specialists of the companies have created a technical process for the production of microcircuits with ultra-low power consumption according to 0.18 micron standards. Products manufactured according to this process technology allow to extend the battery life of mobile electronic devices. Typical leakage current of transistors in such products is 0.1 pA / sq.μm, and the product range includes standard mixed signal processing modules, static random access memory cells, and embedded electrically erasable programmable memory (EEPROM).

As for the aforementioned SmartPower technology, it is intended for the production of high-voltage products for communication equipment. The 0.35-micron standard is rated for voltages up to 80V and includes highly integrated digital circuits, high voltage circuits, and high-precision analog blocks – all in a single chip.

By the way, in addition to SmartPower, AMIS has another interesting development – the promising XtreMOS technology.
