Question Info
Seagate takes SSD seriously

Seagate Technology officially announced last week that it is starting to develop flash storage; the first solid state drives under this brand should be expected in 2021.

Seagate is currently launching hybrid drives in its Momentus 5400 PSD series aimed at notebooks up to 160GB.

In January, the company entered into an alliance to promote flash storage, which also includes manufacturers such as Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Fujitsu, Samsung and Toshiba.
So far, the advances in new technology are not as significant as one might expect.

iSuppli predicts that even by the end of 2021, only 12% of laptops will have an SSD. Hybrid hard drives have much better prospects, the share of which, according to the same analysts, in the mobile PC market, by that time, will reach 35%.

Seagate plans to expand its SSD portfolio by early 2021 to cover all areas of desktop and mobile computing, said Bill Watkins, president of the company.
