OCZ memory + SPD-Z technology = maximum speed and stability of the memory subsystem?
OCZ Technology Group presented
new “tool” for computer enthusiasts hungry for the maximum
performance from your computer and from the memory subsystem in particular.
SPD-Z Technology that OCZ has already applied for a patent,
used in the company’s proprietary utility, is the first of its kind and
will allow the end user to reprogram the SPD (serial
presence detect), which contains information about the capabilities of memory modules
(speed, delays (timings)). This will reportedly allow for
memory to maximize performance and improve memory stability.
Something similar has already happened before – Corsair and NVIDIA are different
long ago suggested an “expansion” of the SPD memory area –
Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP).
The EPP specification assumes the ability of the user to independently
write profiles of memory settings and save them. At the same time, however, it was necessary first to select a motherboard,
supporting EPP and, of course, the memory modules themselves with the support of this technology.
The SPD-Z approach is simpler – it needs memory to work
OCZ, and you can use it and the technology not only with
high-end boards, as in the case of EPP, but also with systems
middle price range. In the next few
OCZ has been promising to post many files on its website for weeks
can be used and approved / rejected by SPD-Z utility users.
The only drawback of this approach is that the GUI utility
SPD-Z only works in Windows OS.
