AMD no longer accepts orders for single-core Athlon 64 – what will replace them?
AMD is phasing out Athlon 64 single-core processors. Five new 45W Sempron models will soon take their place in the entry-level single-core segment, which will officially debut in September. This information with reference to the manufacturers of motherboards is given by the source.
According to reports, AMD has already stopped accepting orders for 65nm Athlon 64 processors, including 3500+, 3800+ and 4000+ models, while 90nm Athlon 64 processors are still available, but in very limited quantities. In September this year, the company plans to release the following 65nm, 45W Sempron processors: LE-1300 (2.3 GHz, 512 KB L2), LE-1250 (2.2 GHz, 512 KB L2), LE-1200 ( 2.1 GHz, 512 KB L2), LE-1100 (1.9 GHz, 256 KB L2) and LE-1150 (2.0 GHz, 256 KB L2).
As for the more distant plans for single-core models, in the first half of 2021, AMD is going to introduce processors based on the Spica core, supporting AM2 + and HyperTransport 3.0. Plans for the second half of the year are known to include 45nm devices for the AM3 socket – then the 45nm single-core Sargas processor is expected to debut.
