Club 3D 8600GT 512MB Passive: absolutely silent DX10 accelerator

With the transition to the new 80nm technical process, NVIDIA has significantly reduced the heat emission of its GPUs, even despite the increased number of transistors in them.

Video card manufacturers have the opportunity to abandon active cooling in their products, which is clearly demonstrated by the latest announcements of Club 3D. Not so long ago we wrote about the 8500 GT model with a passive cooling system, and now it has come to a more productive video card – 8600 GT 512MB Passive, built, as you might guess, on the basis of the GeForce 8600 GT, which has twice as many universal processors (32 versus sixteen).

Lovers of absolute silence, however, will have to sacrifice a little performance. Compared to the reference design, which provides frequencies of 540 MHz for the core and 1400 MHz for GDDR3 memory, the Club 3D GPU runs at the same recommended frequency of 540 MHz, but the memory is only 1000 MHz.

At the same time, the memory type is DDR2, and the volume is twice that of the reference cards – 512 MB.

Club 3D 8600GT 512MB Passive is equipped with Dual Link DVI (with HDCP), D-Sub and S-Video outputs (included – adapter for TV component input).

The cooling system consists of a massive aluminum heatsink and two heat pipes that remove heat from the GPU.

Unfortunately, the radiator that protrudes far beyond the PCB will prevent the Club 3D 8600GT 512MB Passive from being installed in many HTPC cases, but for a silent system in a standard case, this solution seems to be quite suitable.
