SST launches two NAND flash controllers for mobile storage
Flash memory company SST Announces Expansion of NAND Flash Controller Range with Two New Models. We are talking about ATA Flash Disk Controller (SST55VD020) and CompactFlash Card Controller (SST55LC200). The features of the new products are the presence of an improved “error correction engine” (ECC), high performance and support for high-density memory components. Since the firmware of the controllers is located in the reprogrammable memory (SuperFlash), it can be updated at any stage of production of the final products to add support for new chips. This way, the company says, manufacturers can better respond to changes in NAND technology and reduce product design costs.
SST says UDMA host and high-performance NAND interfaces have achieved sustained 30MB / s read and write speeds. Both controllers have eight sampling lines for direct connection of NAND devices. In addition, the SST55VD020 ATA Flash Disk Controller can support up to 64 sampling lines using an external control circuit (decoder).
The main area of application of the new controllers is called portable electronics – players, cameras, other handheld devices. This is facilitated by its small size – the SST55VD020 is available in an 85-pin VFBGA package measuring 6 x 6 x 0.85 mm; both ICs are available in a 100-pin TQFP package. ATA Flash Disk Controller conforms to ATA-4 specifications, supporting PIO-4, MWDMA-4 and UDMA-4. CompactFlash Card Controller CFA 3 Compliant.0, supporting PIO-6, MWDMA-4 and UDMA-4.
