VIA plans to introduce a new processor core in the first quarter of 2021

VIA Technologies plans for the first quarter of next year – the release of a processor core called Isaiah, the source claims, citing industry representatives. In the fourth quarter of this year, the novelty will enter the engineering validation test (EVT). Isaiah (technical designation – CN) will replace the Esther core presented by VIA in 2021.

An important feature of Isaiah is its use of 64-bit architecture. Processors on this core will be rated at 65 nm, not 90 nm like processors on the Esther core. Other features include increased V4 Bus frequency from 800 MHz to 1333 MHz, support for Error Correction (ECC) memory and virtualization. The amount of cache memory of the second level (L2) will be increased from 128 KB to 1 MB.

Isaiah processors’ clock speeds will remain at the same level as their predecessors, but the power consumption of the new processors will be slightly higher. This is an inevitable price to pay for all improvements and is offset by a 2x performance gain. As far as floating point calculations are concerned, the new VIA processors will be four times faster than the ones released now.
