How Intel is going to accelerate the adoption of processors with FSB 1333 MHz?

To accelerate the advancement of 1333MHz FSB processors and boost sales of the recently introduced 3x series of chipsets (Bearlake), Intel plans to phase out production of five Core 2 Duo models with 1066MHz FSB by the end of this year, according to a source citing motherboard manufacturers.

Intel to stop accepting orders for E6600, E6700, E6300, E6320 and E6420 processors. The final delivery date for these products is slated for the first quarter of 2021.

Since the 965 series chipsets do not support 1333MHz FSB processors, and the number of such processors will increase further after the Core 2 Duo E6050 premiere on July 22nd with the release of new 3x series chipsets, Intel intends to accelerate the transition to system sets that support higher FSB frequency.

The E6050 family will include the E6550, E6750 and E6850 with core frequencies of 2.33, 2.66 and 3 GHz. Prices cited by the source are $ 163, $ 183 and $ 266, respectively. Please note that this is about 40% less than the prices for similar models with a 1066 MHz FSB frequency that are leaving the assortment.

As a reminder, the share of 3x series chipsets in the third quarter should increase from 15% to 38%.
