IOGEAR launches first USB-IF certified Wireless USB devices

The first among the manufacturers specializing in wireless peripherals, the American company IOGEAR officially introduced the Wireless USB category product, which has passed the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) and FCC certification. The novelty is called Wireless USB (W-USB) Hub & Adapter Kit (GUWH104KIT) and is a set of wireless adapter and USB hub.

The suite, providing data transfer at speeds up to 480 Mbps, is aimed at home and office users. The included hub can be connected to multiple (up to three) laptops and desktops using W-USB adapters. It has four USB ports that can be wired to USB devices: printers, scanners, MP3 players, and external storage devices. The maximum distance between the adapter and the hub, which ensures stable communication, according to the manufacturer, is 10 m.

Obtaining the USB-IF certification ensures compatibility with today’s and future Certified W-USB devices. Also backward compatible with USB 1.0. Using WiMedia’s Multiband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) technology, the kit conflicts with other wireless devices in the workplace and at home, including cell phones, microwave ovens and Bluetooth headsets.

Along with IOGEAR, among the first manufacturers to achieve USB-IF certification for Wireless USB products were Dell (Inspiron 1720 laptop) D-Link (DUB-1210 adapter and DUB-2240 hub) and Lenovo (T61 / T61p laptops).

The price of the set, recommended by the manufacturer for the US retail network, where the novelty can already be purchased, is $ 200. There is no data yet on delivery times and prices in other markets.
