The Japanese overcame one of the disadvantages of flash memory – low write speed

Genusion, a Japanese semiconductor developer with no manufacturing facilities of its own, announces the development of new flash memory technology.

The new memory, called B4-Flash, is based on the B4-HE mechanism (the use of “hot electrons” induced by interband tunneling using reverse bias), developed by the company’s specialists. This approach is said to change the process of programming (writing) memory.

New technology solves one of the major problems associated with conventional flash memory. We are talking about a significant increase in memory performance in write mode. For comparison: modern samples of flash memory provide write speed in the range of 1-10 MB / s, which is an order of magnitude slower than hard disk drives.

The B4-HE engine has the potential to increase write performance up to 100MB / s, the company says.

The technology is already on its way to commercial use. The company showcases test samples of 4-Mbit chips made using existing technical processes. Serial production of new items should begin by 2021.
